Chicago-based hardcore punks Stress Positions are bringing their chaotic and deliciously anti-capitalist fury to Manchester Punk Festival this year. Formed in 2020, their music is bold, political, and everything that punk is about. Their set is guaranteed to be a wild one – see you down the front!
But before that, let’s get to know the band a bit…
Firstly, how did you all meet and when was Stress Positions formed?
We all met years ago. We all grew up in/around Orlando Florida. We all moved up to Chicago between 2013-2017. 3/4 of us played in C.H.E.W. That project disbanded in 2020 and Stress Positions started up shortly there after with the addition of Stephanie on vocals. We all knew Stephanie was a great singer so it was a natural fit.
For anyone not familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound?
Hardcore punk for people who like freak shit.
If you had to recommend one of your songs to a new listener, which one would you choose?
No Sympathy (For the Police). It’s a catchy, shoulder rockin tune you can shake your ass to or slam around. Best of both worlds.
What can we expect from your set at MPF?
Us playing fast and having fun.
Are there any other bands on the line-up you’re particularly looking forward to seeing?
A bunch. The Chisel, D4, Perp Walk, Single Mothers, Oi Polloi. There’s a lot of bands we haven’t heard and are super excited to see.
What else are you up to this year – any tours/festivals/releases you want to tell us about?
We are gonna be doing more touring later in the year. Nothing set in stone yet but definitely in the US. We also will have an EP out in late spring. Other than that just working on new material.
And finally, is there anything else you’d like to add?
Free Palestine.
Thank you so much to Stress Positions for answering these questions. Manchester Punk Festival takes place 18-20 April 2025 – full details and tickets here
