LA’s Party Nails’ new album Pillow Talk is out now on Eye Knee Records. Its a record that confidently jumps around genres while staying put on the “indie pop” shelf.

Party Nails is musician and producer Elana Carroll, and with Pillow Talk, she continues to do what she does best. Carroll can take lots of ideas and layer them together so they don’t sound squashed or cramped.

Pillow Talk does have a lot going on on it, stylistically and emotionally. It opens with ‘Same Old Song’. A lovely slice of country pop that deals with our coexisting adult and child inner selves.

There is a bratty double dutch/Hollaback rap in the shape of ‘D.R.A.M.A Feat Emma Kern’ and ‘Do U Know How?’ sounds like Dream Wife gone motorik.

Recent single and my favourite track ‘Trigger Warning’ is an epic synth wave number. It could easily fit over the end credits of any 80s thriller or on an episode of ‘Stranger Things’. Singing as someone surviving and processing their abusive relationship, it’s just as intense lyrically as it is musically.

There is a song here to fit your every mood. Each song could have a place on your many different go to mood enhancing / activity soundtracking playlists. And that song will quickly become your favourite.
