The alternative Queen of Music, RØRY is back with her new single and this one is more personal than ever.
RØRY has never shied away from being completely open and honest with her audience; from her journey of understanding her ADHD, to her struggle and accomplishments in sobriety. She has been a huge inspiration to all in the recovery and neurodivergent communities. Her awareness videos, online presence and Music delves into the depths of real and all too relatable issues and focuses on overcoming adversity and ending stigmas. She does this in a hugely creative way, which appeals to the masses. Her new single highlights this in a beautifully relatable and authentic manner.
I got to listen to the new track “One Drink Away” before its release and I was blown away. I can tell this track is set to be a huge hit and a staple fan favorite amongst the scene. The song starts off acoustic and emotional. Her angelic voice sings lyrics of the changes sobriety can bring to your life positively but endeavors to express the dark side of just how easy it is to relapse.
It tackles temptations and the scenarios we often create in our minds. One of the lyrics highlights if she was to make the choice to have that first drink it would be “five years undone” and how in reality you’re only ever one drink away from ruining it all and the constant daily battles around this.
She delivers melodic phrases around how she would lose everything she’s worked for and the people she loves the most highlighting the beauty of sobriety and its gains as well as the fragility of a cunning and baffling disease.
The slowed down mellow sounding instrumental really highlights her stunning voice. She explains creatively the reality of living a relatable daily battle through the music. It’s hugely meaningful, powerful and emotional as well as being heart wrenchingly relatable.
The realities and heaviness of living with the pressure of constantly battling thoughts and cravings are delivered in such a clever way.
It expresses how much she’s put in place daily to remain sober and even though life gets better, new struggles arise internally, a real explanatory expression of living in sobriety.
The verses, choruses and bridge are all well thought out melodically and lyrically while performed delicately, with an accurate depiction of daily life in sobriety as an expression of everything she has and continues to fight for daily.
Her thoughts on the song are as follows;
‘One Drink Away’ is one of the rawest songs I’ve ever written. Sobriety has given me everything—a family, and a career I thought I’d lost—but no matter how well I’m doing, addiction is always lurking, ready to pull me back under. This song is a reminder that even after six years, I’m still just one choice away from losing it all. It’s for anyone who knows that recovery isn’t a finish line; but a constant, daily battle
The track is the fifth single to be taken from her upcoming debut album, RESTORATION, due for release on the 31st January via SADCØRE Records and the music video is out now.
She also has an upcoming- not- to – be – missed UK Tour with As December Falls as support in March 2025.
