I Wish I Had A God, Hohnen Ford‘s second EP, is mesmerising yet understated. The richness of the North London singer’s vocals highlights her jazz voice training at the Royal Academy of Music; a jazz background she blends beautifully with elements of folk, pop and indie.

Hohnen Ford’s cascading vocals and ethereal piano are as enchanting as the lyrics are haunting and she has Regina Spektor’s talent for mixing the dark with the whimsical (think ‘Laughing With’ & ‘Fidelity’). She describes how the title track:

‘I Wish I Had a God’ emerged from the depths of grief, as an attempt to make sense of losing one of my best friends last year.

Her takedown of a “man-child” on ‘Skin Deep’ is laced with wry humour such as “I think your tarot cards don’t work”. A testament to her range, Hohnen Ford’s contemplative and delightfully unpredictable five track EP brings something fresh with every song.

She’s already gained millions of views on Instagram and TikTok and her fans include John Mayer, Tom Odell, Eloise, Birdy, Tom Misch, Laufey, Matilda Mann, Sam Ryder and Marcus Mumford.

Hohnen Ford writes hauntingly beautiful songs that remain with you long after the last few notes have played out. Released on 09 August via Young Poet, you don’t want to miss I Wish I Had A God.
