Sometimes things just fall into place. That may certainly be said about Melbourne psych / country / garage / punk band Bad Bangs. The group formed in 2016 and hasn’t looked back. Their debut album put them on the map. Their live show became the exclamation point. Feeling the energy, the band quickly made their way back to the recording studio. We are excited for the band’s sophomore album, Out Of Character.

Grab, smash and go is how I would describe the first two songs. Pulsating 16 note bass lines propel us forward. The drums stay tight, in tow like a sidecar on a Honda Cafe Racer. Reverb laden guitars swirl about, building tension before the climatic arrival of the distorted guitars. A phenomenal start.

On song three, they switch gears. This track happily saunters along behind the twang of the guitar. ‘Sympathy’ is built on feel. Shelby De Fazio’s vocal’s further push the momentum. When she repeats the line “just another” over and over, the mustard on her delivery spills into the outro, and blasts us to rock n roll euphoria.

My favorite song on the album is ‘Taste’. This single is so good. Sweet melodies, sing-along vocals, dancing piano keys… the list goes on.  Again, the subtle twang of the guitar lands directly on our hearts sweet spot. There’s a jubilant swing to the single that makes me want to hug a loved one. Play the song, put on your sunglasses, look to the sky and smile.

Bad Bangs is on the rise. A European tour has been scheduled for Aug/Sept. There’s no indication the band has any intentions of taking their foot off the gas. With the release of Out Of Character, more listeners will surely follow. Hop on board!
