Baltimore’s Tomato Flower have left behind their pop-defining essence and tumbled headfirst into a dazzling display of 60s girl group-inspired chaos on their latest single ‘Temple of the Mind.’
The track opens with coiling guitar squeals as vocalist Austyn Wohler croons over a mutable musical bedlam. The lyrics reveal a lovesick anxiety that compliments the experimental musical arrangements as the song unfolds in under two minutes. The juxtaposition of musical panic and saccharine vocals pair perfectly and channel the distressing whirlpool consuming the singer and their relationship.
All and all, ‘Temple of the Mind’ is a showstopper of a track. Composed yet messy, Tomato Flower has learned the art of sonic ebb and flow, transfixing audiences like a blossoming kaleidoscope. Tumultuous and heartfelt, this track paints a very exciting picture for the release of their debut album No this March.
