Nashville-based artist Kitty Coen has released a double single, ‘cadillac’ and ‘el paso,’ which is a cinematic portal into Western landscapes and personal heartbreak.
‘cadillac,’ with its rolling guitars and darkened vocals hinted with drama, take us onto a desert road. We’re driving fast, escaping trouble, before bursting authoritatively into a bar at the end when the intensity augments. As Kitty Coen explains in the press release, the song is a “metaphorical dance with the devil on fateful night in a desolate West Texas saloon.”
‘el paso,’ on the other hand, is melancholic and soft. The country twangs are like we’re drifting along alone beside a sunset, the mountains embracing us for comfort. While, ‘cadillac’ plays with personas, “el paso” is like the pure and sensitive side that’s present within everyone. It’s “a true story about love and loss in my own life. In my opinion, being in love with an addict is one of the hardest things a person can go through,” explains Coen.
The two songs, which follow a string of releases including ‘everything’s a mess’ and ‘unfollow me’ in 2023, mark another direction for the artist who entered the scene with a pop rock angsty energy.
