Earlier this year, my social media algorithm suggested The Dollyrots. I checked them out, loved what I heard and began to follow them. I’m still new to their music but their discography speaks volumes. They excel at writing catchy pop punk. Their journey began in Florida but now the band resides in L.A.  Seemingly always on the road and releasing music, The Dollyrots continue to ascend. With a new album set to debut in October, their lead single ‘Night Owl’ offers a taste of what’s to come.

The first thing that pops on ‘Night Owl’ is its catchy attitude-laden vocal melodies. Their sing-along ways will surely have you staring in your very own episode of car karaoke. From a writing perspective, ‘Night Owl’ is quite a ride. Small details set the track apart from the ordinary. For example, the vibrantly colored synth line at the intro and outro. The shakers at the chorus are another great touch that adds a punch. ‘Night Owl’ contracts and expands like a beating heart.

Taking us directly into the studio is the corresponding music video. Footage of Kelly Ogden smiling as she sings in the vocal booth is a great peek behind the scenes. From the video, we learn the band is all business when handling business but still has fun in the process.
