Norwegian duo Misty Coast have released ‘Breathe,’ a dreamy, sun-streaked single capturing the last moments of summer. The laid-back haziness that sweeps through is intensified in the chorus with the words ‘Breathe in/ Breathe out, Try another time / Let’s go home now’ elongated with optimism.
“‘Breathe’ is a laid-back late summer daydream, with admiration for both Beach Boys and Patsy Cline. We have joked that this song is our camouflaged contribution to the so-called “Nordicana wave” that has washed over Oslo in recent years,” explain Linn Frøkedal and Richard Myklebust who make up the duo. “The lyrics could have been taken from any country ballad, where the singer complains about her spouse constantly hitting the bottle and getting into trouble. Although this may not actually be the theme of ‘Breathe’, the core of this dream pop tune is in any case pent-up frustration and breathing exercises.”
‘Breathe’ comes with the announcement of Nevereverending, Misty Coast’s fourth album. Released 27 October, it plays with the dream pop elements by creating a universe where our imagination runs wild and beginnings and endings become ambiguously merged.
