Latina Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Elle Baez has released her latest single ‘Fuego,’ a catchy, attitude-driven ode to her father and grandfather who moved to the USA from the Dominican Republic and achieved the American Dream.
Following on from tracks such as ‘Pretty Insecurities’ and ‘Mister Possessive,’ focus is placed on identity and relationships with our body, this time how you can overcome obstacles and be whoever you want to be. The immediate latin pop vibes and incorporation of Spanish further emphasizes personality and celebrating our origins.
“’Fuego’ tells the story of my dad and abuelo immigrating from DR to the USA. They came from a farm in Ocoa to NYC with little to nothing,” Elle Baez explains on her social media, which is used as a platform for promoting body positivity and empowerment. “My dad was able to work his butt off and go to a top law school and now he has given me the blessing of being able to follow my dreams. He never stops working and he does it all for his children. He taught me anything is possible and to never give up.”
Elle Baez has received growing recognition since her 2021 EP Bold Soul, having recently opened for Bae Miller and a VS Pink show. “Fuego” encourages us to let loose and take ownership of ourselves regardless of judgements from others.
