1.) How did the writing and creative process shift between your debut album What On Earth to Sing Spaceship, Sing?
They were actually pretty different. Most of the songs on What On Earth were written out of improvised extended jams that we took our favorite parts of and then wrote lyrics over. I think you can hear that in how the songs are pretty repetitive and meditative. We then recorded our performances all together as a band in the studio so it had that really live sound.
On Sing Spaceship, Sing we would take single ideas and keep layering – I think we only recorded two songs together as a band. We also lost the fear of messing the pure sounds and didn’t really worry about if we could replicate it live or not, which was so freeing.

2.) Who are the artists/albums that influenced Sing Spaceship, Sing?
A big one has been Still Woozy. All his songs are smooth as hell, none of his sounds are grating in any way. You can completely chill to it but it still manages to be danceable – so good. We also love Arlo Parks and Orion Sun. There is so much good music out there, but rarely do artists make albums that you keep on going back to again and again, but these three artists have definitely done that for us.

3.) What’s your favorite track from Sing Spaceship, Sing and why?
Hmm…it kinda depends on the day but today I think it’s ‘Pool Day’. It feels like a combo of our last album and where we’re headed. The lyrics are really contemplative and a lot about your relationship to yourself and feeling in your body, but the beat is constant and maybe even makes you shimmy your shoulders? Haha maybe!

4.) What are you most excited for your upcoming UK tour?
Getting to perform every night for an audience, the songs you’ve written and put your heart into, for people that care enough to go and see you live really is the best thing in the world. We feel so lucky we have the opportunity to do that, it’s kinda unreal. The UK has always been so good to us, and we feel very much at home there as a band. Besides having lived in London and cut our teeth there in the beginning, it really is a great metropolis for music and we feel so grateful to have an audience there.

5.) Which planet would you consider for Moon Panda’s home in space?
Haha that’s a great question. We are a moon band and no one has more moons than Jupiter (at least we think so…) But most environments in space seem so damn hostile. There are some planets that rain rubies, sapphire, glass or diamonds! What. Really cool and very terrifying. It would be cool to go to Mars, experience outer space and so on but for now we’re glad to be an earth band.
