The alt-pop magic of bexx is back in full force by way of her new release ‘Stupid’. The single explores the reality missing someone who doesn’t miss you back and the conflicting feelings caused by that.
The spirited lyrics juxtapose the genuine torment that ensues when love isn’t going to plan. And what better way to process such fury, than dancing it off to synths and sass. The playfulness of bexx’s lyricism about a hurtful situation illustrates just how complicated and nuanced relationships can be. She sings:
“Hate your stupid eyes in the morning light, your stupid mouth when you kiss me right, how your voice notes made me feel like home, I feel kind of stupid waking up alone.”
bexx, ‘Stupid’
There’s a vulnerability about ‘Stupid’ that is packaged up wonderfully in pop perfection. It is relatable, hopeful and honestly, funny – because we’ve all been there, right?
When bexx releases music it is genuinely exciting. It’s eclectic and euphoric and encapsulates the best parts of pop, rock and punk. Her music creates space for the listener to indulge in their struggles, their love life faux pas and their queerness, unapologetically.
I was fortunate enough to be at the release of her last single ‘Prettier’ back in September where bexx performed a version of this song live and it was just as impactful then as it is now it’s released. It was an instant crowd pleaser and saw the room screaming back at her “I hate this song ‘cause it’s about you” louder than should have been possible.
‘Stupid’ is just one song from bexx’s upcoming EP, SUCKER, which is a collection of cathartic, anti-love songs in which the artist admits to being an idiot in the world of dating.
bexx has already headlined Nottinghamshire Pride and supported the likes of Fickle Friends and Deco on tour. She has been featured in Wonderland, Earmilk, and Rolling Stone and after spending the last few years finding her style, is now ready to take 2023 and beyond by storm.
