Abby Ahmad: Counterfeit

Abby Ahmad had the perfect life. Then she taught herself to play guitar, and realised how angry she was.

‘Counterfeit’, in her own words, is a “Raw rebellion against the standards that women are held to in both society and in the industry.”  Not so much hear her roar, as hear her soar; what a voice for alternative rock music.

On that note, her musical references are excellent: PJ Harvey, Sharon Van Etten and Le Tigre (Kathleen Hanna). Ahmad’s style is her own authentic self: classically trained, influenced by traditional Middle Eastern and Indian music, and mad about big indie guitar rhythms and swells.

The track is on the just released album, Tea with Shadows, via Bandcamp.
