We’re a couple of weeks late to the party on this one, sorry, but Eliza Shaddad‘s new single ‘Now You’re Alone’ is well worth a belated Track of the Day.

The track finds Shaddad in a much blacker mood than her last gorgeous release, the uplifting ‘Heaven‘, but it’s perhaps my favourite of her singles so far – indierock guitar with the gentlest hint of country steel; emotionally raw vocals, and heart-wrenching lyrics. A softly-building cinematic soundtrack to a long dark night of the soul, and trust me when I say this is not the song to listen to when gin has been taken. With relationship angst and loneliness so raw across the world right now, Shaddad’s words cut close to the bone:

Now you’re alone
And the world has turned its back on you
Now you’re alone
Do you feel the way that I do?

Thank goodness the morning’s bright at the end of this night though, and what better way to celebrate our togetherness by putting some Eliza Shaddad live dates in your diary – tour just announced, looksee!
