LADYFLASH

LADY FLASH, an indie pop band fronted by sana lingxi and nico, was formed in Osaka, Japan, out of an incentive to win money in a university contest. 15 years later, spontaneity and desire to experiment remain at the band’s core. Despite being influenced by indie staples like Vampire Weekend and Pixies, whatever LADY FLASH absorb, they are able to transform it and make their own. On 29 July, the band released an eclectic new single, ‘Titans Baby’.

In ‘Titans Baby’, warm, sometimes sugary-sweet vocals are blended with rough, energetic guitars and unforgiving drums. The song could be an OST to a Mieko Kawakami novel — a kaleidoscope of memories and fantasies. Lyrics suggest a desire to escape from familiar places, but in a true LADY FLASH fashion, the rest is left open to interpretation. In just two minutes, ‘Titans Baby’ manages to transport you to another world; a manic, cartoonish one, but delightful nonetheless.
