North London-raised artist Azena has released experimental pop single ‘again & again’ and a chic unpolished video to go with it — all DIY. Her new song channels the excitement of the moment the light bulb in your head turns on and you see the scenario you keep repeating for what it really is.
The woman behind Azena, Ezria Mae Rolfe, directed and edited this iconic display of quintessential lo-fi herself. Rolfe and her friends pass around the camera while singing and falling into each other, in a sense. Something about it feels like watching Skins for the first time in the absolute best way. I cannot elaborate further at this time.
Written about repetitive cycles, I wanted to depict the feeling of renewal that comes after breaking a pattern, or leaving something that barely saw you (and definitely didn’t serve you). With a high-energy, playful sound, ‘again & again’ was made to make people feel excited and empowered.
AZENA
‘again & again’ centers the feeling you get when you are ready to quantum leap from that place you kept ending up to where you are meant to be. It’s often a lover, bad habit, broken boundary, or some other sort of thing that could keep you up at night that holds us in our cycles. Good thing this is the perfect track to listen to on loop while scrolling Tumblr at 3 am.
