A spotlight interview with scene queen Gigi Barwald of NYC's T@b Grrrl, ahead of their appearance at LOUD WOMEN Fest NYC on May 16.

How did you choose your band name?
When I first decided I wanted to start a band, I was talking with my friend and original bassist of T@b about how difficult learning tabs was for me. Alijah, trying to lift my spirits and encourage me to continue learning guitar, called me a “tab girl,” and we both instantly agreed that was the perfect band name.

Where do you call home (geographically and musically)?
Brooklyn, New York.

Describe your sound in three words.
Raw, energetic, and loud.

Tell us about your music.
I wrote ‘Wetbangz’ after graduating from university, when I was couch surfing after coming back from my first trip to Europe. It’s about the experiences I had in the summer of 2023, shifting into true adulthood.

What’s a dream gig or collaboration you must make happen before you die?
I would kill to play or tour with Amyl and the Sniffers! I’ve had friends who have opened for them, so it feels slightly attainable, even though they’ve been blowing up.

Dream lineup: you + three other acts (alive, dead, or imaginary). Who’s on the bill?
Bratmobile, Bikini Kill, and Mannequin Pussy.

What’s next for you — gigs, releases, tour, etc.?
We’re working on finishing up some new music right now.

Anything else you’d like to add?
We <3 LOUD WOMEN and are very excited to be reunited 😀
