Holiday from My Mind began life as a poem written by WØLFFE while lying in an English garden. This is evident in the track, which transcends genre and resonates with listeners regardless of their usual musical preferences.

‘Kill the buzz, silence the voices.’ WØLFFE is asking her own mind for a break. Holiday from My Mind was written while under the influence of medicinal mushrooms, which has given the lyrics a fragmented sensory logic akin to altered consciousness. Images pile up seemingly without direction: ‘Sitting on a sleep, pulling up my teeth, fussy like a pizza piece.’ It’s as if the mind is trying to process too much at once and has simply decided to stop trying.

“One summer’s Saturday, feeling itchy and depressed, my housemates and I decided to indulge in some medicinal mushrooms. Lying in our English garden I wrote all of the lyrics to ‘Holiday From My Mind’. Six months later, I turned the poem into a song and produced this entirely myself from my bedroom. The song tales life as a newly single 30 year old hellbent on escapism and validation.” (WØLFFE).

Sonically, the single occupies a space where emptiness and emotional tension take centre stage. The artist’s minimalist production is rich in atmosphere and draws on the trip-hop legacy of Portishead, while the polished, dark finish is reminiscent of Garbage‘s alt-rock. The true heart of the song lies in the vocals, intimate and almost whispered, avoiding grand gestures in favour of a vulnerable, restrained register. WØLFFE’s voice seems to float above the rhythm, oblivious to the surrounding darkness, evoking the suspended expressiveness of London Grammar‘s Hannah Reid, with a touch of dark pop in the softer moments.

Rather than building to a crescendo, Holiday from My Mind maintains a fairly constant intensity throughout, creating an immersive atmosphere with its soft, sustained synthesiser layers. Together with the vocals, this generates an intimate energy in which the anger or weariness of feeling invisible sometimes rises to the surface – “not another body on a shelf playing with the stars.”

What makes the single so powerful is its context. WØLFFE wrote and produced the EP Yuck – due out in July 2026 – while experiencing her first bout of depression, alone in her room, unable to eat or sleep. Music was her only refuge. An independent artist on her own label, CUB Records, she has worked hard for years, and Holiday from My Mind is the second single from the EP and the first she has produced entirely alone. What WØLFFE has achieved here is showing us that admitting you need a break from yourself can be the bravest and most healing act of all.
