TERE!

TERE! is a multi-genre artist from Madrid, now based in Liverpool. Her latest song ‘NORMAL GIRL’ is released ahead of a teased album No More Manners, and explores ideas of loneliness, being a misfit and re-discovering yourself – all captured in a beautiful piano ballad.

There is a reason why the piano is known as the “mother of all instruments”. The range of frequencies allow you to mould melody to a desired feeling and add depth to your music in a symphonic way, and its so perfect for this song. We can sometimes feel so alone even when surrounded by people that support us, but as soon as I heard this piano piece it made me slow down and pay attention. There is something in the pitch and repetition that happens before TERE! starts to sing that feels grounding and peaceful, almost fairy tale like, that allowed me to connect in a way that I had only experienced listening to the songs of Rachel Platten.

“I know I should change this feeling”

Is the first verse of this thoughtfully curated song. And I could not relate more! There is an expectation that when you are following your passion it should be the best time of your life; especially in a working class environment, all because not everyone has been able to take the chance to follow their dreams. What they fail to acknowledge is that unless you are born well known, it takes a lot of work, 90% of the time. And the other 10% is what we share with people. It’s not being inauthentic, or not honest. Its putting down what we want to attract, so when you begin to feel like an imposter you can look back and remind yourself of all the good and re-centre yourself.

TERE! gives us an explanation of what the song means to her:

“NORMAL GIRL comes from the uncertainty that accompanies any artistic career. It’s
about the fear of being alone, not fitting in, feeling like you’re losing yourself. The piano
was the only place where I could make sense of what was happening to me,”

Whilst we wait for the music video release on 13th of February, have a listen to ‘Normal Girl’ and maybe you will feel just as connected to it as I did:
