Grumpy, the NYC outfit helmed by Heaven Schmitt (they/he), have delivered the kind of heartbreak anthem that doesn’t so much tug at the heartstrings as yank them out and restring them on a cheap pawn-shop guitar.

Lyrically, Schmitt is on cracking form, navigating the emotional absurdity of loving someone who prefers your husband (yes, you read that right). There’s a mic-drop moment of bitter, poetic resignation:

“My girl isn’t mine, I’m a bottom feeder”

It’s messy, it’s vulnerable, and it’s weird in all the right ways. And like all the best punk-spirited pop, it finds beauty in the chaos.

Grumpy will go on tour in support of their EP this Autumn.
