London-based indie grungers wonderbug have just released their debut EP scrap.
Wonderbug are Edie Chesters – Vocals & Synth, Ollie McDaid – Vocals & Guitar, Otto Fitzgerald – Bass, Ben Chesters – Vocals & Drums, and are all related by birth or marriage. scrap is produced by Honeyglaze’s drummer Yuri Shibuichi who brings a clean and clear sound but with a delicate veil of fuzz around the edges which tickles your inner ear in a rather lovely way.

Each track starts low-key but soon builds with intensity. The quiet, loud, quiet grunge aesthetic keeps the listener guessing as to where the song will go next. The dueling dual vocals of Edie and Otto contrast each other well. Otto is all slacker cool and Edie has a very impressive range which reminds me of Porridge Radio’s Dana Margolin and Cable Tie’s Jenny McKechnie.
Recent single and standout track ‘what a waste of time’ is about looking for what’s important in a life that appears to be a waste of time.
“We’ve all grown up in london and seen a lot come and go. This song is about finding joy in impermanence and moving on, eventually.”
