Mikaela Oppenheimer and Hayden McGarvey met while on tour with their respective bands, Hello Mary and Bleary Eyed They found they had much in common and became fast friends. They both enjoyed working with less traditional composition techniques. McGarvey would often combine vocals and beats on a tape deck in his bedroom, and Oppenheimer would often compose electronic music using computer code algorithms. After sharing ideas together, McGarvey composed several pieces for a new EP, and the two began to collaborate to make it come to life.
Trusselina will release their debut EP, The Point’s A Truss, My Trusselina on October 9 via Jolt Music. We can now enjoy the lead single, ‘The Club’. This track features ethereal acoustic guitars, and an understated, yet ever-present beat. A cool feature that grabbed my ear was short, looped samples that grow in volume for a measure or so to form a unique-sounding riser to introduce the next song section. The track also features pitch-shifted vocals that are nestled down in the mix so the hint of lyrics is just barely suggested. This gives the track an other-worldly quality.
The rest of the EP promises to be delightfully different, featuring field recordings, electronics, yodeling and even a text-to-speech engine! Be sure to follow Trusselina for more.
