Thirty years after White on Blonde propelled them to international stardom, Texas are celebrating their landmark album with a special anniversary release, a brand new single and an extensive UK and European arena tour.

Released in February 1997, White on Blonde arrived in the middle of Britpop’s blokey heyday and sounded like nothing else around it. Drawing on soul, trip-hop, funk and pop, the album went straight to Number One, spawned five Top 10 singles and eventually achieved six-times-platinum status in the UK.

And Sharleen Spiteri has never been particularly interested in following the crowd.

“I didn’t want to fit in. If everybody’s doing something, I’m always running in the opposite direction,” she recalls. “We will play our own tune. If you want to jump on, great. If you hate us, fine. But this is what we want to do.”

That independent streak runs right through the band’s new single, ‘Another Way to Cry’, a glorious Northern Soul-inspired number packed with brass, strings and the unmistakable voice of Spiteri.

The accompanying video, directed by Niall Trask, was filmed in the Scottish Highlands and stars Spiteri alongside longtime friend and actor Robert Carlyle. It’s a cinematic love letter to Paris, Texas, the film that inspired the band’s name.

The 30th anniversary edition of White on Blonde arrives on 5 February 2027 through Play It Again Sam, featuring bonus material, previously unreleased recordings and sleeve notes by comedian Peter Kay. Formats include double CD and several vinyl editions.

Texas will also take the celebrations on the road with an 18-date UK and European arena tour in autumn 2027, joined by fellow Scottish favourites Del Amitri on the UK and Ireland dates.

The tour kicks off in Aberdeen on 15 October, with stops including Glasgow, Leeds, Brighton and The O2 in London on Wednesday 27 October, before heading across Europe.

Presale begins on Wednesday 28 October 2026, with general sale on Friday 30 October, both at 10am local time.

Three decades on, White on Blonde remains a brilliant reminder of what happens when a band trusts its instincts rather than the prevailing fashion. And with new music arriving alongside the anniversary celebrations, Texas clearly aren’t finished writing their story.
