Ireland-based Italian/Czech indie-pop and alt-folk artist Danxgerous, the solo project of Daniela “Dan” Mariti, releases her debut album Old Soul.
A reflective epic tale about destiny, memory and emotion, Old Soul follows an ancient traveller caught in the wrong timeline, searching for a sense of belonging in a strange, shimmering world. Blending dream pop, indie rock and modern indie folk, the album reflects on what it means to feel out of place while holding on to the belief that beauty still exists. Mariti reflects:
“I think of Old Soul as my own modern fable. It’s about an ancient character wandering through a strange, shimmering world where dreams don’t unfold the way she imagined. After all the bitterness, frustration and disappointment comes the real surprise: discovering that feelings themselves are worth fighting for. Love, nature, performing, creating—those are what make us feel alive.”
The ancient traveller and Mariti are one and the same, their stories unfolding through a shifting vortex. Even as dreams fracture, she searches for meaning within herself, finding that the universe is never silent, even in dreams and memories, and sometimes speaks loudest where there is no sound at all. Mariti shares:
“Before writing this record, I never expected it to hold this much meaning. The songs gradually revealed a story I didn’t realise I was telling. I’m so proud of the magic it holds and conveys. In my mind, the album exists like a huge painting where countless things are happening at once. Every time you look at it, another detail appears. I wanted to bring that painting to life and ask how something so imaginative could survive in the real world. Because that’s really the question I was asking myself: how can I survive in the real world? These songs helped me find the answer.”
