New York City’s Whisper Doll release their latest album Lucky Clover.
Originally bandleader Fiona Tagami’s solo project, Whisper Doll has since evolved into a full band featuring drummer Shawn Majeed, guitarist Maya Lagman and bassist Julia Chrzanowski. Whisper Doll embodies the brightness of The Sundays, the emotional range of The Cranberries and the allure of Mazzy Star. Lucky Clover is their first full-band record and the first made entirely in NYC.
Alongside the album is the official music video for the title track ‘Lucky Clover’, featuring its namesake, Fiona’s cat Lucky.
“This song began when Maya sent me the little sparkly riff that comes in with the drums in the beginning. I wanted this song to feel hopeful and sparkly and sweet. The melody was written to sound similar to a children’s choir, innocent and sing-songy. I had just fallen in love with a sweet cat that lived at the bodega down the street from me. He was the perfect cat of my dreams. Grey and white and super fluffy. He would come to greet me every time I went there and would sit by the window and stare at me as I walked away. For my birthday, the bodega let me adopt him. It happened at a time when lots of things fell into place and I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. I named my new cat Lucky.”
Fiona Tagami
An album full of whimsical lightness, magic and hopefulness, Lucky Clover transports listeners into Whisper Doll’s magical world, where daydreams are welcomed and an open heart is the key to entry. Fiona shares:
“It’s about this switch of trying to be in the world as a hopeful person. Seeing the good in everything, and feeling light and airy in that space. Being able to be very dreamy about things; letting myself daydream.”
