Swedish duo 7ebra release their second album, How To Land a Plane. Made up of twin sisters Inez and Ella Johansson, the duo follow up their acclaimed debut Bird Hour with a more introspective album that explores the confusion and contradictions of being in your late twenties.
Across How To Land a Plane, 7ebra move through layers of indie pop and ambient pop, with sharp guitars blending angst with pointed observations about growing up, mental health, capitalism and the strange feeling of being stuck between youth and adulthood. The album captures the struggle of trying to figure yourself out while feeling like you’re supposed to have everything together. Inez explains: “It’s about feeling a bit messy, and not getting it right. Having a struggle just existing with yourself.”
The uncertainty of young adulthood, and finding yourself further from what you thought “adulthood” would look like, runs throughout the album, as the current economy only pushes that idea further out of reach. Inez reflects: “It’s really hard to find a job and an apartment these days. I feel like you’re younger kind of longer.”
How To Land a Plane reflects that endless youth: growing up while still feeling stuck, navigating change while trying to understand where you fit. At the same time, the album captures Inez and Ella growing as artists, with thought-provoking songwriting and their signature wit.
