Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, DOG DAYS formed in early 2025, with members aged between 16 and 18 who are already showing a clear sense of musical direction. Their second single, Starting Again, follows ‘Petals’ and is further proof of their potential.

The song opens with a winding, hypnotic bassline that immediately brings Pixies’ ‘Where Is My Mind?’ to mind. From there, it ventures into 90s-inspired alternative rock, somewhere between Soccer Mommy’s indie sensibility and Crawlers’ grungier edge. The guitars shift between sweetness and distortion as the intensity gradually builds. Kayleigh’s restrained vocals carry a slightly rough, youthful edge, and that apparent nonchalance is one of the track’s greatest strengths.

The lyrics explore insecurity, how it affects our relationships and that familiar emotional turmoil you thought you’d left behind, only for it to return. Amid nights of isolation and fading childhood memories, a question emerges: “Did it even happen?”. Suddenly, the title takes on a much more unsettling meaning. Starting again is no longer a promise, but the fear of ending up right back where you were. With its circular structure, the song itself seems caught in that same loop.

They’re still finding their sound, but they already blend vulnerability and powerful guitars with remarkable ease. Definitely a band to keep an eye on.
