Meet Stress Dolls 💋
Stress Dolls is the project of Buffalo songwriter Chelsea O’Donnell, making sharp, melodic alternative rock with one foot in punk, one in indie and a voice that absolutely does not disappear politely into the background.
Chelsea has been playing around Western New York since 2013, with Stress Dolls evolving through various lineups before becoming a project she could shape around her own life and health. These days Stress Dolls can appear solo, as a duo with violinist Sally Schaefer, or as a full band.
The debut album Queen of No was recorded with producer Jim Wirt, whose credits include Fiona Apple, Incubus and Something Corporate. After initially releasing the record through a label, Chelsea later bought back the rights to her recordings, founded her own label Angry Girl Music and reissued the album independently.
Which, obviously, we love.
There’s a strong community thread running through Stress Dolls too. Chelsea has spent years championing music from Buffalo, Toronto, Western New York and Southern Ontario through her work in radio, alongside making and touring her own music.
Start with ‘Body’, one of the songs that went on to become part of Queen of No:
