Meet Blankslate, the Denver queer-femme indie duo joining us at the Fox Theatre on 7 November for the very first LOUD WOMEN Fest Colorado.
Made up of best friends Rylee Dunn and Tess Condron, Blankslate started out playing coffee shops and open mics around the University of Denver before making their way into the city’s club scene and far beyond it. These days Rylee handles vocals, guitar and bass while Tess somehow manages drums and keys, often at the same time.
Or, as they put it themselves: “a five-piece with four arms.”
Their music is fiercely independent, lyrically driven and gloriously difficult to squash into one box, wandering between folk, grunge, indie rock and punk, sometimes within the same song. Blankslate describe transformation, and the possibility of becoming, as the principle at the heart of the band.
Their second album, Lookout Mountain Charley, arrived in August 2025, following debut Summer on a Salt Flat. It’s packed with the kind of thoughtful, diaristic songwriting that drew us to them in the first place, while leaving plenty of room for things to get LOUD.

Blankslate at LOUD WOMEN Fest Colorado
Blankslate told us that making space for underrepresented artists is already central to the way they operate. As a completely independent queer band, they actively prioritise diverse bills and communities around their shows.
Very much our kind of people, then.
They’ll join All Thicc + Bitchflower + Brokentear + Dressy Bessy + Fatal Femmes + GUNK! + I, Doris + Tarah Who? + The Dollheads at the Fox Theatre in Boulder on Saturday 7 November.
This is our first ever LOUD WOMEN Fest Colorado, bringing together some of the brilliant artists already making noise in the state with bands travelling in from elsewhere in the US, Mexico and the UK.
And we cannot wait to see what Blankslate do on that stage.
