Split Dogs’ third album Nice N ’Rough is out 25 September 2026 from Venn Records to grab you by the shirt front and throw you into the mosh pit (consensually, of course). Produced by Jonah Falco, this Somerset-based band’s newest record rocks like a trove of old AC/DC records cross-fertilized with the Distillers. If you like hard-driving rock and roll with punk attitude, blues roots, and throughlines of fun, anger, and angst, this one’s for you.
Old school guitar power? Check, courtesy of Mil Martinez. Bass to keep it all together (and re-align your heartbeat)? Suez Boyle’s specialty. Drums that go a gazillion miles an hour (but only when needed)? Chris Hugall brings ‘em. And pulling it all together to pierce your soul are Harry Martinez’ vocals, scratchy and melodic, funny and furious, and no-holds-barred.
And while the band no question have a sound, they’re more than happy to play with it. Album opener “Be Somebody,” starts with a 50s girl group inspired vibe, soon alternating with Split Dogs’ signature hard rocking. “I can’t control these shakes—just one pill is all it takes” Harry Martinez sings on “Shake Sum Action,” another banger. You won’t be able to control your sudden need to start pogoing.
‘Rock’n’Roll Business,’ meanwhile, tells a sardonic tale of its own, about, well, you guessed it. The video goes darker, though. “It’s tongue-in-cheek, but it’s mostly true” Harry Martinez says, “Half the time the business is run like a shady deal in a British gangster film, so that’s exactly how we made the video.”
This album is probably not for those who like the slow lane. But if it’s high time your ears did some bleeding, Split Dogs’ Nice N’ Rough delivers. Listen to it on Soundcloud or Bandcamp.
