Mexican lesbian trashartivist Lola Pony is back with ‘Last Superstar Alive’, a groovalicious little theatrical blast from debut album Pink Trash Chicken. We already fell for Lola when ‘Bad Girl Pt. I (b.a)’ introduced us to music made with GarageBand, borrowed instruments and a keyboard rescued from an East London bin, so yes, we are very much on board with this next instalment.
At barely more than a minute long, ‘Last Superstar Alive’ wastes absolutely no time. It is camp, playful, danceable DIY pop with Lola gleefully taking centre stage, and the accompanying video understands that if you are going to call yourself the last superstar alive, you may as well behave accordingly.
Pink Trash Chicken was finished during Lola’s summer artist residency at Cartel Studios, but thankfully none of the wonky DIY spirit has been polished away. Lola’s whole thing is making art from whatever is available, throwing music, performance and activism together, and treating happiness and love as revolutionary acts. We can get behind that.

Lola Pony is joining us for a live session on LOUD WOMEN Radio this Tuesday, 29 September, playing four songs live from the Resonance studio.
