LOUD WOMEN turns 11 on Saturday 10 October, and the full lineup for our birthday party at the legendary Hope & Anchor in Islington is now complete:
Alexandra Leaving + Lola Pony + I, Doris + Gemma Rogers + Pisces
Eleven years after the very first LOUD WOMEN gig, we’re heading back to a sweaty London basement with five brilliant artists and a birthday to celebrate.
Alexandra Leaving brings huge guitars, powerhouse vocals and gloriously fierce alt-rock. Originally from the West Midlands and now based in London, Alexandra has become a firm LOUD WOMEN favourite, with songs that are sharp, vulnerable and built to be played very loud.
Lola Pony is a Mexican-born, London-based performance trashartivist and music alchemist making wonderfully wonky DIY pop from whatever comes to hand. Phones, borrowed instruments, keyboards rescued from bins: nothing is safe. Expect something playful, colourful and completely Lola.
I, Doris are London’s original menopunks, serving up kitchenpunk, mummycore, big hooks, feminist fury and jokes at the patriarchy’s expense. Eleven years of LOUD WOMEN means Doris is contractually obliged to get onstage at some point.
Gemma Rogers pairs razor-sharp storytelling with irresistible indie-pop and punk hooks. Funny, defiant and enormously likeable live, Gemma makes songs about the messy business of being human that you’ll still be humming on the way home.
Completing the bill are Pisces, bringing their melodic alternative sound to the Hope & Anchor basement.
LOUD WOMEN started in 2015 with one simple aim: to put more women on more stages. Eleven years later, we’ve somehow turned that little London gig night into festivals, radio shows, releases and a worldwide DIY community. But a packed basement full of brilliant artists still feels like the perfect way to celebrate.
Come and have a birthday drink with us.
