San Francisco three-piece, Wealthy Women, released their fourth single, ‘Shit Breaks,’ from their upcoming album, Children, produced by Scot Evans. The album, recorded at Antisleep Audio in Oakland, CA, and out on 7 August 2026, was written in 2025, post-Donald Trump’s election, and examines the shifts and defining political moments since that time. The band has historically focused on topics as heavy as their sound: war, immigration, and toxic masculinity, to name a few. ‘Shit Breaks’ also tackles a heavy topic, but one that’s a little more personal for the band, that of domestic violence. The band says of this track:
“This song is about the first time someone shared their experience of partner abuse with me. I hope I handled it with as much sensitivity as the youthful me thought he did. It was a wake-up call for me at the time since I was lucky enough to grow up without exposure to violence against women. It’s devastating that these things happen every day, and it’s enraging that it is minimized and/or ignored by society.“
“One of the more odious features of the ascendant Masculinists among us is their wilful blindness to the everyday experience of women. I don’t know if it’s another gift of the algorithmic age or if people have always been so quick to dismiss an experience they themselves have not had, but every woman clutching their car keys in an empty car park understands. Women have to be cautious because there’s no visual difference between ‘bad men’ and ‘not all men’.”
This track is their classic brand of sludge metal and noise rock. It’s a slow-burning song built on a foundation of brooding tension and raw emotion.
