Austro-Australian grungy cosmic folk project Storm Lily sends out its second single ‘Jaywalking’ to make a statement about a blind spot in the streets and in our minds – each other.

Singer-songwriter Laura Steiner is a writer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and photographer. She utilizes all of those talents to deliver this little world of harmonized hums, extended metaphor, and overlooked puppets. She started Storm Lily as a solo project. On this track, however, Steiner’s vocals, synth, and bass are joined by background ribbons of trumpet from Helmut Steininger and a drum track by Marco Kleebauer.

The single gives friction and smooth. I could not help but think of ‘Hey Mami’ by Sylvan Esso while listening. Like that, ‘Jaywalking’ speaks on how much harder the patriarchy makes it to claim space to move in this world. The constant bass and hi-hat ride build a mild tension that is never relieved, a lot like the feeling you get inside once you decide to jaywalk and it’s time to make your move.

This newest track joins the single ‘SHIFT‘ to give a taste of upcoming EP HUMBAH, out this fall via self-release.
