BE N!CE are back with OOPSIE, a new track taken from their upcoming EP that transforms the all-too-familiar nightmare of negligent landlords, useless estate agents and never-ending maintenance issues into a cathartic release of frustration.
While firmly rooted in the contemporary UK punk scene, “OOPSIE” pushes beyond the genre’s usual boundaries. Here, the weight of the riffs matters far more than speed. Drawing from a distinctly Sabbath-inspired tradition, the guitars move with a dense, menacing heaviness, building an uncomfortable sense of tension that occasionally recalls the sheer weight and presence of the Melvins. At the same time, the song never loses the sense of urgency inherited from hardcore, with bursts of energy reminiscent of bands like GEL. The result is a combination of weight, tension and momentum that often feels close to the territory explored by Witch Fever. Amid the barrage of guitars, the bass manages to carve out its own space, maintaining a constant and decisive presence throughout.
The song is built around a huge, repetitive riff that perfectly mirrors the situation described in the lyrics: weeks spent waiting for repairs, endless phone calls and a chain of irresponsibility in which nobody is willing to take the blame. That slow accumulation of frustration becomes the song’s primary fuel.
“This song felt so cathartic for me having spent every year of the last 9 dealing with professionals in the rental market. Landlords who could not care less about their tenants or properties, estate agents who know they don’t need to do any work to rent properties, handymen who don’t show up or make the problem worse, endless passing the buck to the next professional with nobody taking responsibility… Every single tenant in this country knows what we’re venting about with this song, hopefully they find it as cathartic as we do”. (Brett Lee, guitarist)

What really sets “OOPSIE” apart, however, is its sense of humour. Rather than descending into a straightforward rant, the band uses exaggeration and absurdity to sharpen its message. When the narrator fantasises about burning the house down as the only way of getting rid of the mould, only to immediately insist that they are “very much against property damage”, the song finds the perfect balance between outrage and sarcasm. The social commentary never overwhelms the humour, and the humour never softens the anger.
More than just a punk protest song, “OOPSIE” showcases BE N!CE’s ability to combine crushing riffs, dark humour and social commentary into something genuinely distinctive. Few bands could turn the everyday misery of the rental market into such a potent mix of weight, irony and barely contained rage. Maybe burning the house down wasn’t such a bad idea after all… or was it? (Oopsie!).
