London based alt-pop artist Au/Ra is set to release debut album Heartcore on June 26 – and if all the songs will follow a similar energy to her latest release ‘Killswitch’ then we are definitely in for a treat. With a fusion of grunge and catchy pop, this single is one to listen to on the move. Whether you are walking, running or driving its definitely one to lift the spirit.
Au/Ra has built a character that seems almost mystical. The way in which her music is written creates a story line that is slowly being released, with new character and props that play an integral part to who she will become. For example an important part of “Killswitch” is the sword she uses to fight against what I believe is her own dark consciousness as the lyrics point out:
“And I’m so done carrying this baggage, – Gonna make you disappear like magic,”
Au/Ra revealed what the new album is written about, which makes us understand the songs to a much deeper level.
Au/Ra says, “heartcore is a concept album where I open the dungeon of my mind for listeners to climb inside. I created a character to help me process the real-life trauma of my girlhood, and how I healed from putting all my self-worth into being an artist. I had no idea who I was without Au/Ra”
