Formed by Mae Seaton and George Donoghue, Brighton’s own WREX have released ‘Consume, a gritty alt-rock anthem that captures our collective struggle in a broken social landscape.

We are currently living in a time of unrest, anger and pain that is being fed to us through our screens. Whether it be the political issues around the world or a personal battle, our addiction to constantly needing to be fed information may be the reason we can’t escape to make things better.

The track opens with a call of action to move, and if you have ever seen them live, you already know that this is where the mosh pit starts. The perfectly placed melodic intro gives you time to get consumed by the music before Mae bridges the gap between music and reality. And if I had to draw attention to any part of the song, other than the chorus, which brings plenty of guilt. The below lyrics are what made me pay attention and listen again:

“And there’s a service charge just for being alive, Best believe there’s interest if you step outside”

It’s just so accurate to the time we live in, no matter what your situation may be.

WREX has a theme of mixing fast-paced rhythms that make you want to move with deep and meaningful lyrics and this song isn’t any different. The duo even record and produce their own music videos! George is the producer and recorder, whilst Mae edited the masterpiece!

It feels like WREX are always on the road so keep an eye on their socials and catch them at their next gig!
