Denmark-born artist Barbro released single ‘The Best’ ahead of album Crossfade early in 2026. After a busy few years touring Europe, graduating from university and collaborating with artists, this is the first full album we have had from the singer since their debut Bad Choices in 2023.
Starting off with a simple, repetitive guitar line, synonymous of Barbro’s earlier music, the quick addition of drums and vocals tune the audience in to the story. Openly exploring life, relationships and an ethos of grounded perspective the singer-songwriter settles the listener into a comfortable mood with soft vocals that are both vulnerable and strong.
Through an interesting combination of guitar, vocals, drums and synth we can see how genre-specific writing isn’t the ultimate goal here, as with any of the singers previous works. Truly, Barbro takes a mood and embodies it rather than starting with an underlying structure or form.
Continuing from this, the lyrical writing contrasts longer lines and shorter sentences to create a natural rhythm and keep the audience engaged. Where the shorter lines set up the story through inference, the pre-chorus is the moment to take a break and gain clarity on that all important mood.
Pre-Chorus
‘Cause I’m living in a world, I keep going back to it
Even when I’m held, cause I don’t want to keep hanging on
I’m about to fall
The mix of polish, storytelling and typical unconventinoal harmonies playing with both chords and timbre, ‘The Best’ is a Barbro classic that demonstrates her growth as an artist.
