Tenderness – photo by Rachel Lipsitz

Tenderness, the solo project of Katy Beth Young, shares ‘Day of Atonement’ featuring Deep Throat Choir, the latest from her debut album True, out 13 March.

‘Day of Atonement’ flickers through vignettes of relationships and dreams, looping gracefully over the ethereal textures of Deep Throat Choir.

‘Day of Atonement’ is a kind of collage of images and sounds and dreams and different relationships. I wanted the song to be both abstract and tangible, in the way that dreams can be. It’s a bit of an outlier for me –I usually try to write towards clarity, but this song is more impressionistic because it’s about parts of myself that I struggle to look at squarely, which are experiences around care and codependency and addiction. The recording was made from many layers with a huge bed of drones by Euan, Jim White-inspired drums from Olly, melancholy pedal steel by Harry and improvised, ethereal backing vocals by some of my friends from Deep Throat Choir.”’
