London singer-songwriter Alice Costelloe releases her solo debut album, Move On With The Year

Move On With The Year dives into themes of identity, addiction, and artistic reinvention. Across the record, Costelloe processes her estranged father’s addiction, a truth she only fully understood after her older sister helped her see it clearly.

“So much of my childhood I had this feeling that something wasn’t right, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. My dad was so different: he’d fall asleep mid-sentence with a lit cigarette in his mouth, he couldn’t be woken up no matter how much you tried, and when he wasn’t sleeping he’d take us on strange, and in retrospect, insanely dangerous adventures.”

Tapping into old memories, Costelloe revisits the past with a steadier gaze. Even in its sadness, there is clarity and growth, her harmonies weaving through raw confession and nostalgic notes of flute, closing one chapter and opening the next. Her father’s addiction no longer defines her future.

“I felt really empowered by going back into the past. I spent six months completely tuned into childhood, my relationship with my dad; I’ve done my time thinking. I just want the best for him, and I want the best for myself, and there’s nothing more to it than that.”
