What better time to release a song about leaving a toxic relationship than just before Valentine’s Day? This is the ironic timing Sister Ghost (aka Shannon Delores O’Neill) has chosen for her new single, ‘Not Your Toy’. The song transforms a toxic breakup into a rebirth, denouncing emotional manipulation and controlling dynamics openly. ‘Not Your Toy’ is the first single from her upcoming EP, set for release in spring 2026. The launch coincides with Sister Ghost’s first live show of 2026 at the iconic Waterfront Hall in Belfast on 14 February.

Sister Ghost experiments with new sounds here, giving the track a punk edge reminiscent of The Gits or 1990s Angeleno punk with power pop overtones, a sonic shift that doesn’t entirely abandon the grunge and art-rock influences of her previous work.

Through power chords and rhythmic riffs, she captures the rush of liberation and self-discovery that hits when you finally tell that energy vampire to fuck off, closing on a note of irony rather than victimhood.

‘Whilst being a fun punk rock blast of a song, this track has a heavier meaning behind it—it’s primarily for and about those who have survived coercive control.’

– Shannon Delores O’Neill

It’s time to love yourself, so hit play and discover your new anthem: ‘My, my, my / Me, me, me / I’m so glad now I can see.’
