The modern rock cover of a mid-50s LaVern Baker classic brings an edgy alternative ‘pin-up girl’ energy. The fuzzed-out accompaniment holds the bones of the original in place, while the vocal ‘shoop shoops’ transports us back in time. Accented by Flores’ stellar guitar work, the overall piece is an energetic clash of classic and modern styles.
The exciting rock beat and fantastic vocal control from James make me excited to see what the singer has to offer in her upcoming album, Call it Rock & Roll.
