Natalie Jane Hill

‘Colors’ by Natalie Jane Hill is the third single to be released from her upcoming album Hopeful Woman, arriving on 6 March, via Dear Life Records.

Following her previous single, ‘I Thought Love Meant’, this song transitions from the realization that love can be simple, light, and healing, and that you don’t need to change yourself for anyone else, into learning how to set boundaries and not revert back into the familiar cycle of reshaping yourself for someone new. Instead, ‘Colors’ leans into enjoying the colorfulness of a new love with this healthier mindset.

I like you very much I do
Think it surprised you just how sure I knew

It’s a song about the early stages of love, where even if you have your guard up, you still want to dive into something new and give it your all without overthinking the consequences. There’s a bittersweet feeling in that excitement, being eager to jump in because you feel equipped with everything you’ve learned, while also reminding yourself to step back so you don’t repeat the same cycles you’re used to.

I’ve been thinking about the direction of my life
Where it’s been and where it’s headed
I’d like to keep you close, even if only in my mind
Cause I know how sometimes you gotta follow your light
And I know how sometimes I gotta follow mine
And I know how sometimes we gotta follow our light
And I know how sometimes I gotta follow mine

The song feels pure, angelic, and forgiving. Natalie Jane Hill’s earthy presence is like a warm hug from Mother Nature itself, reminding you that the seeds you plant don’t grow overnight, no matter how much you water them, and that it’s okay to keep coming back and checking in on them.
