Bristol trio Masca sharpen their edge on new single ‘Diggin’’, a fizzing, shape-shifting track that tackles political entrenchment head-on without sacrificing joy or movement. Written in the shadow of the current climate, it’s a song about getting stuck in your own trench:
“a song about not being able to see the other side, getting so entrenched with your own views that you’re unable to take a step back. Left vs right.”
– as frontwoman Christina Maynard puts it. Musically, it wriggles and swerves: glittering melodies give way to blistering riffs, tension snapping into release just when you think you’ve got it pinned down.
Guest vocals from Ellie Godwin (PEACH) and Aisling Rhiannon (Sans Froid) add texture and fire, reinforcing Masca’s knack for making big ideas feel collective rather than preachy.
As another taster from debut album Love Letters (out 3 April via Cold Hard Bangers), ‘Diggin’’ makes it clear Masca are a band powered by lived experience: politics, parenthood, precarity and persistence all collide in their songs.
