A spotlight interview with Soren Bryce of band Tummyache, ahead of their appearance at LOUD WOMEN Fest Berlin on 22 February.

What’s your band name about?
Tummyache – an unassuming name for a severe physical side effect of long term anxiety.

Where do you call home?
UK

Describe your sound in three words
art-rock / post-hardcore / DIY

Tell us about your music
Our third album FAKE NEW is about exploring the psychological and social impact of technology — and how we might begin to dismantle it.

‘Favourite Son’ is dedicated to myself in a way. It talks about keeping your head down and working hard, and hoping for the payoff that comes from what you put in. Keeping blinders on and not comparing yourself to anyone.

What’s your local scene like — and how do you fit in, or stir it up?
The UK scene is small, and friendly – but sometimes inflexible. We enjoy putting more emphasis on community over social media, interaction over hierarchy, and strength in numbers over capitalist gain.

If you could rip up the rulebook of the music industry, what’s the first thing you’d rewrite?
The need to use social media to get ahead.

What’s the wildest thing that’s ever happened at one of your gigs?
Someone outside of the venue attempted to bottle me for asking them to leave!

What’s next for you?
We are embarking on our UK headline tour from January 28th to February 10th. We will also be doing some festivals this summer, and releasing new music from our upcoming fourth album this year as well.
