LA-based (via Portland) trio Blackwater Holylight return with new single ‘Bodies’, a slow-burning slab of dreamy hard rock that balances sludgy riffs with shoegaze haze and airy synths. Taken from their upcoming album Not Here Not Gone (out 30 January via Suicide Squeeze Records), the track sits firmly in the band’s sweet spot: heavy but spacious, crushing yet oddly calming.
“This song is about the experience of being in a human body,” the band say, describing our bodies as “a suit for our souls… temporary homes for something infinite.”
It’s a theme that lands quietly but confidently, carried by Sunny Faris’ clear, steady vocals against a backdrop of weighty guitars and swirling atmosphere.
The single offers a strong snapshot of Not Here Not Gone, an album shaped by change, movement and contrast after the band relocated from the Pacific Northwest to LA. Blackwater Holylight head out on extensive UK, EU and US dates this spring, including Desertfest London, with the new record landing at the end of the month.
