Ali Genevich of NYC-based band Laveda unveils her solo project, untitled freak, with a haunting self-titled track.

untitled freak is where Ali’s creativity spirals into an angst-fueled exploration, unafraid to confront the discomfort of insincerity, self-pity, and the internal paradoxes within. On her debut self-titled track, she channels a moment of intense vulnerability into something otherworldly. Leading with writing the melody first, Ali creates a structure that is raw and instinctive.

“I had never anticipated writing anything that wasn’t for Laveda until I wrote ‘untitled freak.’ I was feeling particularly anxious on a freezing January afternoon. A knife that made a tiny cut had caused me internal bleeding; and by that I mean, I was dramatically sad, so naturally I grabbed a guitar. It felt like the first time I let myself just do whatever the music wanted me to. I’d almost describe it as possession. The song wrote and recorded itself. After it was finished I was really just afraid that I would forget how to even play it. Maybe I’m just a freak but I sometimes imagine it’s something a doctor would listen to while performing an intricate medical procedure, like an autopsy or something. I don’t know why, it just does.”
