Naarm/Melbourne singer-songwriter Emma Russack has released her newest single, an ode to lolling about. The tongue-in-cheek single ‘i’ve been playing with myself all day’, which will feature on her latest EP 5 Timothée Chalamet Instagram Captions, is an acoustic delight in its stripped-back delivery. Taking its name from a post by Chalamet, which featured a plastic toy in his likeness, the track carries a gentle country-folk sound, with unhurried melodies that reminded me of my summers spent lakeside.
“It was a really fun creative exercise for me after having a kid. I don’t feel like being super-personal at the moment, I just want to have a bit of fun.” Emma Russack
Musically, this single diverges from Russack’s ethereal full-length album, About the Girl (2024); however, the warm vocals and compelling lyrics will captivate existing fans and, I’m sure, entice new ones.
Russack’s latest EP, 5 Timothée Chalamet Instagram Captions, is out 21 November.
