Ghent’s Maria Iskariot release debut album Wereldwaan (World Delusion).
Maria Iskariot is a Dutch-language punk band founded by frontwoman Helena Cazaerck and guitarist Loeke Vanhoutteghem. With the later additions of drummer Sybe Versluys and bassist Amanda Barbosa, the group became a tight-knit unit with a bold, uncompromising sound.
“We are four people that have found each other. Being a gang, having fun and creating something meaningful together, is our way of coping with the madness attacking us from inside and out. We try to make something beautiful out of frustration, unwanted complicity, greed, fingerpointing, ugliness. We choose life.

We choose expression not the measure stick. We speak to you, our friends from different languages, in a way that is not about understanding.

Wereldwaan builds a connection that transcends language, creating a universal rush from the very first track. It’s punk in its rawest form, a refusal to conform and a celebration of chaos through the embrace of life’s dualities. Messy yet beautiful, abrasive yet intimate.
