A LOUD WOMEN spotlight interview with Loviet, ahead of her performance at LOUD WOMEN Fest Halifax, Nova Scotia on 18 Oct - and the following weekend at Nova Scotia Music Week.

Who’s in the band, and what do you all play?

Natalie Lynn (guitar & vox), Ryan Perry (drums), Katelyn Bonomo (guitar), Cassie Mann (bass)

Where do you call home (geographically and musically)?

Toronto/Nova Scotia

Describe your sound in three words.

Gritty, powerful, alternative.

Tell us about your latest release — what’s it about, and why should we all turn it up loud?

STIFFY is an angsty punk-adjacent rock song with sad undertones and 2000s big studio sheen. I was really pulling from the greats for inspiration like Kings Of Leon and The Killers.

The story behind STIFFY is actually a personal one about loss and friendship and the pain when you lose someone you cared for and they make you a villain in their story. So in the writing of this track I really wanted it to kind of come from the angle of accepting all the misconceptions and playing the devils advocate and learning to be comfortable with that, after a long time I think of carrying it or trying to change things.

The title of my single being STIFFY is still so funny to me. I joked about using it and everyone was pretty into it so it stuck. The line is actually about a “stiff upper lip”

What’s your local scene like — and how do you fit in, or stir it up?

Canada has such a variety of music and feels very small where everyone knows everyone in the best way! I love having that community all over the maritimes and Toronto scene, whether it’s shared band members, or shared touring acts.

What’s the biggest hurdle you’ve faced and how did you overcome it?

Just being able to trust myself and my own taste while a million people push their own ideas and agendas on top of me. I still struggle with it but I try to surround myself with the right people now and pick and choose who I let into my creative processes.

What’s the proudest moment you’ve had so far as a band/artist?

I think this new scrappy record we’re in the middle of releasing is a proud moment because it was self produced after years of being told NOT to do that and just taking a risk to make something with no strings attached.

Dream lineup: you + three other acts (alive, dead, or imaginary). Who’s on the bill?

Lana Del Rey, Hole, Sheryl Crow

What’s next for you — gigs, releases, tour etc?

Our next single comes out Nov 7 so keep your eyes peeled! And then we are also heading to NSMW Oct 23 to play at the Red Knight!

Where can people listen, follow, and support your music?

Loviet.com has the connect to all my socials and music 🙂
